Wouldn’t it be nice to reduce mental chatter or the so-called monkey mind that runs all day with incessant thoughts? According to research published in the journal Frontiers this March, there’s a specific type of meditation that seems to help do just that—while strengthening focus and control. Here’s the scoop:
By this point, it’s well known that meditation can improve many people’s quality of life and can even result in structural brain changes. For this study, a team of researchers from universities in the United States, Spain, and England investigated the structural and functional benefits of Sahaja Yoga meditation in particular.
This kind of meditation is all about helping people achieve a state of mental stillness, or “no thought.” It’s closely related to the ideas of Kundalini energy, self-realization, and the chakras. In Sahaja Yoga meditation, part of the practice involves repeating affirming statements and placing your hand on different energy centers in the body.
The researchers studied 23 Sahaja Yoga meditation experts, looking at everything from the functional connectivity in their brains to tests related to their self-control and impulsiveness. Their results were compared against 23 participants with no meditation experience.
Based on the findings, the study suggests long-term practice of Sahaja Yoga meditation may actually result in positive changes to brain structure and behavior.
As the study authors note, “long-term meditation practice increases direct functional connectivity between ventral and dorsal frontal regions within brain networks related to attention and cognitive control and decreases function connectivity between regions of these networks and areas of the default mode network.” The “default mode network,” is basically the monkey mind, or the fuel behind mental chatter that is all too often negative.
In simple terms, this study found that this meditation can strengthen the connection between areas of the brain related to attention and control and makes the areas of the brain related to mental wandering weaker. Practitioners also had better scores when it came to impulsiveness and self-control. A win-win for the practitioners and their brains!
Of course, this is just one study, but it bodes well for this method of meditation.
We could all use a break from incessant thoughts, and while quieting the mind may seem like an impossible feat, meditation—specifically Sahaja Yoga meditation—could be just the thing to help you do so. While there are plenty of different meditation styles out there, if focus and self-control are what you’re after, this might be a good one to try.

Dr. Rai’s research on the medical benefits of Sahaja Yoga meditation is more relevant than ever in the face of the Covid crisis all over the world.
In 1998 he was invited to talk about his research in Austria/Vienna (therefore the German translation). This is a MUST WATCH to learn about the depth of the effects of Sahaja Yoga Medidation even on a physical level.

Why is it that Western medicine has evolved so much but cannot provide a cure for some of the common disorders like high blood-pressure, heart diseases, cancer, bronchial asthma, epilepsy, migraine, irritable bowl syndrome, psychosomatic diseases, etc.?

The problem of the concept of Western medicine that the body functions like a machine and to treat body and mind separately.

What does “Yoga” mean and why Sahaja Yoga Meditation is the easiest and fastest solution compared to all other forms of Yogas and meditations (together with the additional bonus that the teachings are completely free).

Details about the research done with control groups and what were the effects on the cardiovascular system, on the respiratory system, on the nervous system, etc. which showed absolutely amazing results.

Forgiveness is a very important part in the practice of Sahaja Yoga. If we do not forgive then our Agnya Chakra (on the forehead) starts to block and we get stuck in our mind where we hold on to past events and continue to react to them. As long as we are trapped in the past and react to it with anger, sadness or frustration we are not free. And when we are not free we cannot find the joy of life.
Forgiveness is the quality of the Agnya Chakra which was opened by this tremendous act of compassion by Lord Jesus Christ. And ‘forgiveness’ was his biggest message. He set such an example! After all he did nothing but good, his compassion knew no limits, he went all the way out to help and spread the message of Divine love, yet he was tortured and crucified. But what was his reaction? Nothing but love and forgiveness.
So if we find it hard to forgive then we can remember his life and how much he has forgiven. And if we got our Kundalini Awakening we can go even further and experience his power in our own Agnya Chakra by meditating on it. We put the right hand on the forehead and say: “I forgive everyone and I forgive myself.”
We can also say the name of Jesus Christ and ask for his power of forgiveness.
Sahaja Yoga is a practice which integrates the essence of all religions, scriptures and teachings. Because of the Kundalini Awakening we no longer need to believe in anything but we can experience it. And by our experience we start knowing it.
So if you are a seeker of truth then come and join our meditations. As this is a spiritual practice it is of course always free.

“I have consistently preached that nonviolence demands that the means we use must be as pure as the ends we seek.”
—Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., 1963
In a conversation with a friend we wondered what was it about Martin Luther King that made people follow him even if it meant to be beaten up, tortured or imprisoned. What was his secret? What his power? Do we have it, too?
The word “power” – according to the Oxford dictionary – means “to be able to exert a lot of force”. Most of us may associate it with domination and aggression. But there is another form of force, too, equally powerful.
Martin Luther King was such a force. A force that could sweep others away with him to walk a new way into a new future. A tremendous force of benevolence. Of a deep love for humankind. Of an understanding beyond the minds of his time. The power of non-violence. Of non-aggression. The power to not re-act (give back equally) but to act.
Throughout the ages the powers of dictators crumbled to dust and leaving them in the collective memory as the failures they were. But the powers of the kinds like Martin Luther King will shine through all the ages, bright like stars in the night sky, throwing their light on the path to build a new world that is benevolent for everyone, not just a few.
So while we honor the memory of Martin Luther King today maybe we can take a look inside to find a Martin Luther King there, too. In everyone of us there is a leader, too. Even in our smaller, day-to-day lives it is possible to have a heart of a lion, the goodness of a lamb and to hold our ground with heads high when we answer to aggression with non-aggression; to violence with non-violence.
We have the same power inside of us that forced an empire like England onto its knees in the freedom fight of India led by Mahatma Gandhi! The same power by which Martin Luther King inspired such a change in America! Maybe we will not become famous for it but the people will know their heroes amongst them! Those who made a difference in other people’s lives. Those who risk their lives daily to serve and protect. Those who find means and ways to make the world a better place. We all can be a part to make the dream of Martin Luther King a reality.
And if by any chance you wonder “How?” then come and meditate with us!
Sahaja Yoga Meditation was Shri Mataji’s gift to the world therefore it is always and forever free! Join our meditation programs, learn what makes this practice so unique and powerful – For the love for this world, the people around you, and let’s not forget – for yourself, too!
“Love has to be unlimited. Unlimited love which binds the whole world. You have to become the agents of that, to become the people who can communicate that love.”
Shri Mataji Nirmala Devi
