The 5th Step: Clearing Techniques

After a long summer break we are back and as the weather is still great to do all sorts of outdoors activities we thought of sharing some helpful treatments for clearing the subtle system which we usually do indoors but are also great to do out in nature.

Here is an overview of the various clearing techniques that allow us to get rid of stuck and negative energy and recharge our subtle systems.

FOOTSOAK
a treatment to dissolve stress, angry feelings, tension, edginess and too much thinking

The most recommended clearing technique is to take a foot-soak (around 10-15 minutes) every day after coming home from work or before going to bed.

Here is a short video clip how to do it at home. If you are near the sea or a lake or a river, you ca have your foot-soak there.

.

Other techniques including the water element:

  • Walking or standing barefoot in the morning or evening dew
  • Standing barefoot on Mother Earth, pouring water over your feet

ICE-PACK
an emergency treatment to immediately calm down any stress feelings; great after a special stressful working day

.

CANDLE  TREATMENT
great to balance the emotional side and get rid of sadness, lethargy, depressive feelings etc

Take one candle and move it up and down the left side of your body.  Do this for around 10 minutes. The flames help to pull out all negative energies from the emotional side. Please do not hold it too close to your clothes or any other inflammable objects.

.

Another simple technique is to sit outside and let the sun light chase away all sad or depressive feelings. Please choose times of the day where the sun is not too hot.

MOTHER EARTH

It is an extremely simple technique:  sit on the ground and put both hands flat on the ground. Let the earth absorb all tensions or negative energies.

All these techniques help a lot to clear our subtle body and allow the vibrations to flow more freely.

As long as the weather allows, try some of these techniques outdoors. Let Mother Earth give you a great treat and charge you with lots of fresh energy.

The 4th Step: How To Feel Vibrations

vibrations in hand)In the steps 1-3 we talked about the Inner Energy and how we can actually feel it, when it is awakened. Although many people do get the experience of feeling the cool breeze and – what we call – the vibrations, there are also many who do not feel it right away. I was one of them, when I started to meditate. I did not feel anything at all, but I felt very relaxed and peaceful inside. This, and that I was never asked for money, made me go on with this meditation. It might sound strange to give importance to the fact that I did not have to pay for this meditation, but I always thought of meditation as something spiritual, where we connect with something higher, be it our own higher self or a higher power, and it always felt dishonest to me when people made a money business out of it.
Shri Mataji, the founder of Sahaja Yoga Meditation, always emphasised that this knowledge cannot be sold.

 A Personal Recollection

My first experience of actually feeling the vibrations was maybe after two years. There were workshops from time to time where someone would sit behind a person and help clearing the energy centers (that will be a subject for a later post where you can learn how to help another person to balance their energy centers). In one of those sessions a lady “worked on me” and suddenly I felt a cool breeze spreading all over my back which was a quite interesting feeling as it was winter time and I was packed in a warm sweater, but the coolness came from under the sweater.

Therefore, please: Don’t give up!

Helpful Tricks

Luckily, there are some “tricks” to help.

We will make a big jump forward to one of the energy-centers that is placed at the level of the throat, called the Vishuddhi. This center allows us to feel the vibrations, so if we don’t, it indicates that this center is constricted.

VishuddhiWe will have a deeper look into it later on, but for now it is enough to know that one of the main aspects of the throat-center is self-esteem.

If we do not respect ourselves, or are buried in guilt-feelings, this center is very likely blocked.

Let’s do a small test:

Take a paper and a pen.
Within 1 minute write down all your negative sides, your weaknesses, and negative habits.
Turn the paper around.
Now for another minute write down all your positive sides, your strengths and positive habits.

Who was the winner? The negative side, or the positive one? Most of the time it is the easiest thing for us, to find faults after faults with ourselves and feel terribly guilty about them, but when it comes to our qualities, we start thinking…

The 4th Step

We will work on several levels to open up the throat center.

There are some simple physical exercises and treatments we can use.

Regular meditation helps a lot. When our Inner Energy is awakened, she starts going into all those energy-centers that are constricted and starts removing all negative energies there. With time we start feeling an inner freshness and lightness,  when more and more of these inner blocks are dissolved.

It is also important to become more mindful about how we deal with ourselves. Are we kind, loving and patient with ourselves and forgiving when we made a mistake? Or are we harsh and aggressive to our inner being, throwing one unkind guilt-feeling after the other on us, never being good enough for anything? Here is your new slogan:

How you want others to treat you, so treat yourself.

love yourself

The Goal

We want our throat-center to open up more and more which will result in

  • feeling vibrations (at the beginning it can be very faint, sometimes cool, sometimes warm)
  • to be mindful towards oneself
  • to let drop-out all guilt feelings

It is very important to see how we deal with mistakes we might have committed.
When guilt feelings are pressing down on us, we tend to justify our actions, thus not really facing what we have done wrong, and most of the time continuing with it, feeling more guilty, needing more justifications, and soon we are trapped in a vicious circle.

Sometimes we also have the misconception that we think if we have done something wrong, the only way to repent for it is feeling guilty – that is very wrong and one of the main reasons, why our throat center is blocked.

If we have done anything wrong, the best way is to face it, take up responsibility and never do the same mistake again. If we have accepted a mistake, and are committed to never repeat it again, there is no need to feel guilty anymore – we have learned a lesson that made us richer in our experience and it is time to go on. .

Sometimes it can happen, that we feel guilty without having done anything wrong at all. If this is the case, ask yourself again and again, why you feel guilty, and confirm to yourself with full confidence: I am not guilty at all!

The Exercise

For those who have not done yet the meditation to awaken the Inner Energy, please do that first, as all the other exercises will only work efficiently if the Inner Energy is awakened. You can find it in step 1.

Do the following twice a day if possible, in the morning and in the evening – it takes about 20 minutes.

Repeat these exercises as long as it takes to feel the vibrations in the hands and over the head.

  1. Take the small test from above, counter all negative aspects with positive ones and write them down – read the positive qualities of yourself every day as a loving reminder
  2. Gargle with lukewarm salt water
  3. massage your neck and shoulders with a little bit of olive oil
  4. Press your chin to the chest-bone, roll the tongue back, breathe relaxed and slowly in and out for 1 minute.
  5. In the following short video Shri Mataji showed some simple exercises to help the throat-center open up more

    .
  6. Vishuddhi affirmationPut the right hand on the left side of your neck, turn the head to the right and say 16 times aloud and with full confidence: I am not guilty !
    .
  7. Meditate

I wish you a wonderful week with beautiful meditations and maybe the first hints of the cool breeze in your hands!

The Third Step: Connect to The Power that Created You

After the first steps towards your inner self – with the awakening of your Inner Energy and learning about vibrations – you might have found that the experience is never the same. It can differ from day-to-day, and it can also differ from person to person. Some people might have had very strong experiences right from the beginning, some might have felt only faint sensations in the hands, some might have felt nothing at all. Why it is so, we will see later on when we come to the different energy-centers. But – out of our experiences from the many programs we have conducted – most people could feel a state of inner peace and calmness, where the thoughts came to rest.

The growth of our awareness does not come overnight. It is a gradual process so we have to learn perseverance, patiently allowing new perceptions to emerge in their own time.

Does a seed know it’s true Self?

Our growth can be seen very much in the same light like a seed growing into a tree. We cannot command a seed to start growing. In the same way we cannot command the Inner Energy to rise.

43_planting_the_seedsIt needs a gardener to plant a seed.

It needs an enlightened personality to awake the Inner Energy. Once this Inner Energy is awakened, the person can awaken it in others.

When the seed is planted it needs water to grow.

When the Inner Energy is awakened it needs meditation to become stronger.

Gradually, so gradually that nobody actually sees the actual happening, the seed grows into what it was meant to be from the very beginning of its existence.

.

In the same way we grow into our true self, silently and effortless. One day it may happen that you wake up, realizing that you feel so much lighter, so much more joyful, so different and so much better… and again another day will come where you will feel even more lighter, more joyful and different and better… and yet another day, and many more such days… it is an ongoing process.

We cannot see it, we cannot touch it, but we know when it is gone – Life.

281985_346281952132043_1885741119_nLife grows, goes through cycles and perishes. We cannot bring things to life, nor can we hinder life to wither away.

Our whole planet is bubbling with life, “Nature” taking care from the smallest details to the biggest balancing acts between life-forms, connecting everything with each other in a way, that nothing can live without the other. But what or who is this power?

“How can you know the meaning of your life when you are not connected to the power that created you.” Shri Mataji

The complete conscious awareness of a human being starts with the understanding and perceiving of all outside and inside happenings on the central nervous system. This is also called the individual consciousness. Normally the universal power that organizes all life and living processes cannot be felt by the common human awareness.

vibrations in hand)This changes when our Inner Energy is awakened and the connection between the human being and the all-pervading power is established. We start feeling the sensations in our hands as a cool breeze (sometimes it can be a warm sensation, which will be explained later on when we learn more about the energy-centers). We also start feeling the state of our subtle system (a reflection of our personality) on our finger-tips.

Kundalini is your Mother

Shri Mataji, founder of Sahaja MeditationI consider it one of the greatest gifts Shri Mataji has given to humanity – She found a way to awaken this Inner Energy (called in Sanskrit the Kundalini) in normal people like you and me.

Before, it was only a few seekers who went to secluded places and cleared their subtle system rigorously, so that the Kundalini Energy would rise. Since all the centers had to be clear before this could happen, many did not reach this aim in their life time.

Shri Mataji could reverse the process so that the Inner Energy, or Kundalini, would rise first and then go back into our subtle system to clear it. This is what happens when we get our self-realization.
Mostly only one or very few strands of this energy make their way through our constricted energy-centers. That is why we may feel the cool breeze of this energy not so strongly at the beginning, but with regular meditation we help our energy-centers to clear more and more, and allow this Inner Energy to rise with more strands, which again let us feel more of the cool breeze.

“Kundalini is your Mother. She has been with you for ages and She has been waiting for this day when you could get your Realisation.” Shri Mataji, 1979

The Third Step:

530301_305741226165999_145479798858810_753270_608987704_nConnect to your Kundalini. No amount of words can describe the mystery of this living force within, that – if you wish so – silently and nourishing takes you to your highest self, guiding you into the fantastic adventure of exploring your inner being and all the manifold qualities hidden there.

Could a small seed ever imagine that a day would come where it became a grand tree, full of fruits and giving shelter and shade to so many beings? Could it believe that everything is already there and only needs to be allowed to grow? In the same way we are not aware of what heights we can reach, but all of it is already there, inside.

The Goal:

When you sit in meditation, let yourself be pulled into the working of your Kundalini. Try to connect with her, try to feel her and to communicate with her. Ask questions – you may find that somehow you are guided to the right answers.

The Kundalini is a part of you, given to you, yet she works independent in her own ways. She is the same force that made you grow from a child into an adult, without any pains, ever so softly, without you ever realizing the actual growing process, yet a real happening.

The Exercise:

Awaken the Inner Energy, the Kundalini, if you have not done, yet

Here is a guided meditation by Shri Mataji Nirmala Devi herself to awaken your Inner Energy. She also shows how to raise this energy and how to put yourself into a shield of protection. After this meditation you may find yourself in a state of thoughtless awareness and feeling deep peace within.

Can Books Give Us Spirituality?

It is said that the Bible is the best-selling, most printed and most translated book of all times. Besides it, there are numerous books nowadays, trying to describe spirituality from every possible angle. But by reading them, including the Holy Scriptures of different religions, have we really been  transformed into spiritual beings?

It is one thing to try to follow an idealism, be it a religion or any kind of believe. But is ‘to follow it’ the real becoming? Do we really know our own inner being, this eternal, ever-lasting spirit in us? Do we have the experience of being connected to the all-pervading power?

Shri Mataji said: “I cannot just give you a book by which you sit and read and say, ‘Yes, I know the self. I have got it, I have become.’ To know Thyself does not come from rituals or reading books; it has to be experienced on your central nervous system. It’s a real becoming, ripening, maturing, and living process. No doubt the books give a description of a person with self-knowledge – how he behaves, how his style is, but none of them explain how you become that. Perhaps most of them didn’t know about Kundalini. So it came to my lot.”

To me – personally – it was astonishing how simple the answer was: the key to experience lays in our central nervous system.

We ‘see’ colors, but how would we describe them to a person who was born blind? We ‘hear’, we ‘feel’, we ‘smell’, we ‘taste’ – therefore we know. Therefore we are able to act.
In the same way we have to experience spirituality on our central nervous system.

The key to this experience is the awakening of the inner energy (in Sanskrit called as Kundalini), and already here a lot of confusion can occur. There is a big difference between the electromagnetic fields of the body, the auras, the energy centers, the energy surrounding us in nature and the inner energy.

What differentiates the inner energy to others is that it is a living energy; one may say it is a part of the life force itself that works in its own ways, without our interference. In a dormant state it is the power that ‘keeps our body together’, the essence that aligns all body-functions in us, and provides the necessary energy for our living.
When awakened it starts rising along our spine and enlightening our central nervous system. That is the moment when a new awareness starts manifesting in us, like a new sense.

Here is what you will feel when your inner energy is awakened:

  • a cool breeze in your hands and over your head (which – specially at the beginning – can be also warm, an indication of clearing)
  • different sensations in your fingertips and parts of the hands which indicate the state of your energy centers
  • a clear change of these sensations in your hands when you start working on your energy centers

Each energy-center represents a part of our personality and it becomes very easy to figure out where we are strong and where we need to improve.

There is nothing more beautiful than to experience once own inner richness, and the knowledge to have powerful allies – the Kundalini (the inner energy) as well as the all-pervading power around us that is only too eager to support us, fill us with all needed energy, and help us in every possible way on our journey through life.

It is a big difference, if I read in a book about the taste of the juiciest and sweetest red apple, or to bite into it myself. And I am sure you will all agree with me that, only when I have taken this bite myself can I really understand what the book tried to tell me.

So here is the invitation to ‘bite into it’, start feeling your own inner energy, and then keep it up by meditating – 10 minutes in the morning, 10 minutes in the evening, and you may be surprised how much you will find in it for yourself.

I wish you a wonderful week full with the taste of your own spirit!

Yours, Angi

A 10-Minutes-Meditation for Inner Balance

  1. Awaken your Inner Energy (if you have not done it before):
Here is a guided meditation (approx. 10 Min.) to awaken your Inner Energy by the founder of Sahaja Meditation, Shri Mataji.  If you went through it already skip step 1). When your Inner Energy is activated it will stay so, there is no need to repeat the affirmations (although you can do so if you like).
  2. At the beginning and the end of each meditation we do what we call “raising the energy” and give ourselves “a shield of protection”.
Here is a nice animation how to do it: charlie.swf
You can also find a detailed description in our Meditation Tips on page 4 and 5: Meditation Tips
  3. The following guided meditation is about 10 minutes long. Please keep your eyes open (at least for the first time) as the instructions are in written form.
